Go see Thomas Dambo’s wooden giant, Big Pete
Meet Pete!
When you’re staying at Lake Wylie Lodge, don’t miss a chance to meet our newest neighbor, Big Pete.
The Danish sculptor Thomas Dambo built Big Pete, his 170th in a global series of giant trolls, in Charlotte’s new River District development, just a few miles from Lake Wylie Lodge.
Our family first learned about Thomas Dambo on a trip to Copenhagen in 2024, and we’re thrilled that the artist now has a local presence in Charlotte!
Big Pete towers above visitors. Be sure to check out his giant feet, funky twig hairdo, and sweet smile.
The sculpture is nestled on the top of a hill that can be muddy and slippery after a rain, so be sure to wear sturdy shoes to make the short climb up to meet him.
Keep hiking the trail behind Big Pete to find the Charlotte Airline Bike Park, an impressive trail for bikers of all abilities.
Nearby, you’ll also find the River District’s awe-inspiring playground (check out that super tall climbing tower!) and soon, a curated collection of restaurants and shops.
